Scania has taken its largest order of heavy-duty electric vehicles to date, with 110 trucks forming part of a new product development partnership with Einride.

It will see the provider of end-to-end digital, electric and autonomous shipping solutions further expand their market presence, despite already having one of Europe’s largest heavy duty electric fleets.

Each truck will be built to the Swedish freight technology company’s hardware specifications and will be powered by its Saga operating system.

The data and insights generated from the fleet will be provided to Scania for continued product co-development.

This collaboration, it said, marks the beginning of a new long-term partnership that will contribute to both Scania’s and Einride’s ambitions to scale up the use of electric road freight.

Ellen Kugelberg, chief product officer for Einride, said: “We are looking forward to the beginning of this vital partnership as we expand across Europe.

“These 110 trucks will make a substantial contribution to increasing our fleet, while we will continue to join forces with renowned industry players such as Scania to drive innovation and product development in the global transport industry,”

Fredrik Allard, head of e-Mobility at Scania, added: “We share the same vision of decarbonising heavy transport.

“It has been rewarding to work with Einride on joint new technical solutions and digital services that will sustainably advance our industry.”

The fleet of 110 Scania trucks will be delivered throughout Europe during 2022 and into the first half of 2023
