BMW’s X2 sports activity coupe is to be available with a fully-electric powertrain, offering a range of up to 283 miles, for the first time when the second generation range goes on sale today.

The launch of the iX2 means the manufacturer has at least one battery electric vehicle in all major model segments.

It will be available in two derivatives – the eDrive20 and xDrive30.

The eDrive20 has a maximum power output of 207PS, a 0-62mph sprint time of 8.6 seconds, a range of up to 283 miles, and an on-the-road price of £51,615.

The xDrive30 has a maximum power of 317PS, a 0-62mph acceleration time of 5.6 seconds, a maximum range of 267 miles and an on-the-road price of £57,445.

XDrive30 can charge at up to 11kW from an AC charger, meaning charging the battery fully from empty takes six-and-a-half hours. DC charging can be done at speeds up to 130kW, boosting the battery from 10% to 80% capacity in 29 minutes.

X2 will also be available with a choice of petrol engines – a 172PS sDrive20i with an OTR price of £40,515, and a 304PS M35i xDrive with an OTR price of £49,340.

The second generation X2 is also larger than the outgoing model, growing 194mm in length to 4,554mm and is also 21mm wider and 64mm taller.

With all seats in place, X2 can also accommodate 560 litres of cargo, 90 litres more than its predecessor.

The interior features the BMW Curved Display, which is formed by a 10.25-inch information display and a 10.7-inch control display. The screens merge into a single unit behind a continuous glass surface that curves towards the driver.

BMW Digital Premium means customers can use a range of apps for use such as music streaming, video streaming, news or gaming on a subscription basis.

Standard features includes a navigation system, two-zone automatic climate control, a raft of modern driver assistance systems, and park assist featuring a reversing camera.
