The number of video reports received via the National Dash Cam Safety Portal (NDCSP) has increased by a fifth, according to data from 42 UK Police forces.

More than 48,000 clips have been uploaded, since the scheme launched four years ago.

Drivers can share footage of dangerous driving incidents with the relevant police force, for investigation.

The latest data shows an increase of 20 percent in the number of uploads to the portal suggesting that dangerous driving offences are spiking across the country.

The West Midlands has had the highest number of submissions, with 13,330 driving offences reported since its inception. The remaining four of the top five regions are West Mercia, Warwickshire, North Yorkshire and Northumbria.

Bryn Brooker, head of road safety at Nextbase, said: “Over the past four years, the data has shown that motor related offences in the UK reported through the Portal have been steadily on the rise. With more and more cars on the roads, and many opting for staycations, it is crucial that motorists take more care when driving.”

Ex Police Officer from West Mercia road traffic police and now official consultant, Lee Barton, added: “The culmination of bank holidays and the public opting for staycations has resulted in increased activity on roads in the UK. Naturally, with this comes a worrying spike in dangerous driving offences.

“It is imperative that we all work together to identify the UK’s most dangerous drivers to ensure that our roads are safer – those dangerous drivers should simply not be allowed behind the wheel. The Portal has helped police forces all around the country identify dangerous drivers and as we continue to see the public interacting with the portal, we will be able to make our roads safer.”
