MG is to launch a fleet charter to give corporate customers a guaranteed level of service as it looks to continue its growth in the fleet market.

The manufacturer has made huge strides in the sector, particularly since the launch of its MG4 fully-electric hatchback which was named EV Breakthrough of the Year at this year’s Fleet News Awards.Zenith logo

Geraint Isaac, head of fleet sales at MG Motor UK, said: “Currently we consistently seem to be about 11th in the manufacturer tables, so we are probably punching above our weight to a certain extent.

“But when you get to that level there is an expectation from people about the level of service they receive because that’s what they’ve had from other manufacturers they’ve dealt with previously.

“For us to grow further and to go to the next level, we have to have that whole package because it’s not just about selling the cars, it’s about looking after the customers while they have them.”

The brand’s ambition will be supported by a number of new models, starting next year with the fully-electric Cyberster two-seater convertible.

Isaac said: “We have a whole new product offensive starting next year. Our range will change in terms of not only replacing models but adding some as well; I think by the end of next year, MG4 will be the oldest car on our range.”

This model has been “a tremendous car for us”, he added, as it has opened up a lot of new fleet customers because of its price position and size.

“We knew that if we could get the residual values right, which we did with some really strong RVs from launch, then the contract hire leasing rentals would be really competitive,” said Isaac.

“People have been really pleasantly surprised with how good the car is, how well put together it is, and how good the spec is, and we’ve found fleet buyers are particularly keen to offer it to their customers.

“It’s featured on a lot of choicelists already, and seems to be featuring on more and more because of the overall value it offers.”

He added: “We’re really pleased with the progress we’ve made and are looking for consistent growth over the next 12-18 months.

“What pleases me is that fleet accounts for probably 50% of the total volume of the business: it is a significant part and will remain that going forward.”

Fleet News Awards – sponsor comment

Words on behalf of Ian Hughes, CEO corporate division at Zenith.

“At Zenith, we’re keen to recognise and celebrate those who are going the extra mile to drive down carbon footprints. This is why we were a proud sponsor of five categories at this year’s Fleet News Awards – all of which support our own ESG agenda and help to bring alternatively-fuelled vehicles to the forefront.

“There was true quality displayed by all nominees, which greatly demonstrates the importance that we, as an industry, are placing on our journey a net zero, and highlighted the huge improvements and advancements being continually made. I want to congratulate all nominees for their work over the last year, and especially MG, Volkswagen, Vauxhall, Ford and Scania for winning their respective categories.”
