Kia is now accepting orders for the EV4, which is the newest model in its growing 'EV' series of cars.

The newcomer is priced from £34,695 and has a range of up to 388 miles.

Sitting between the EV3 and EV5 SUVs, the EV4 takes the form of a more conventional hatchback or saloon.

It will rival the Renault Megane E-Tech and VW ID3, as well as the Tesla Model 3.

The EV4 uses Kia's E-GMP platform, like the EV3 and EV6. It will be offered with a 58kWh or an 81kWh battery, paired with a 204PS motor.

The smaller battery offers a range of up to 273 miles, while the larger battery provides up to 388 miles of driving.

DC fast charging enables either unit to be charged from 10% - 80% in around 30 minutes.

The EV4 integrates a 30-inch digital cockpit made up of three displays. The central infotainment touchscreen, climate control panel and digital instrument cluster are seamlessly integrated into a floating panel.

Kia has retained some physical switchgear for access to key functions, but the interior design is minimalist.

The entry-level EV4 Air comes equipped with LED headlights, heated front seats, keyless entry, climate control, front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and blind spot monitoring. It's available with both battery packs.

Step up to GT Line and the EV4 is only available with the larger battery. It comes with two-tone artificial leather upholstery, sportier GT Line styling and an electrically adjustable driver's seat.

The range-topping GT Line S adds a sunroof, front seat ventilation and rear seat heating, an electric tailgate, Harmon Kardon sound system and a 360-degree camera system.

A heat pump is optionally available on the GT Line S, for an extra £900.

Kia will launch a saloon version of the EV4 at a later date.
