Mercedes-Benz has updated the GLB, a compact SUV that sits beneath the GLC but offers seven seats.

The car is priced from £38,055 and benefits from design changes at the front and rear, new LED headlights and an improved infotainment system.

Four powertrains are offered. The petrol-powered GLB 200 (163PS) is the cheapest model. It emits from 160g/km of CO2 and promises 40mpg.

The GLB 200d generates 150PS and has the lowest CO2 emissions in the line up. Key stats are 148g/km and 50mpg. 

For those that want all-wheel-drive, the GLB 220 d 4Matic is powered by a 190PS diesel engine. Fuel economy and CO2 emissions figures for this engine are 47.1mpg and 158g/km.

At the top of the range sits the GLB 35 AMG. It's powered by a 306PS engine, can accelerate from 0-62mph in 5.5 seconds and emits from 207g/km of CO2.

Sport Executive models come as standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, four driving modes, LED headlights and tail lights, reversing camera, climate control,  heated front seats and fabric upholstery.

It also features a pair of 10.25-inch digital displays with the MBUX multimedia system.

AMG Line Executive models add 19-inch alloy wheels and AMG bodystyling, keyless entry, ambient interior lighting, privacy glass and Artico and microfibre upholstery.

AMG Line Premium models feature Augmented Reality navigation, blind spot monitoring and an upgraded speaker system.

The range-topping GLB AMG Line Premium Plus includes Multibeam LED headlamps with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, Driving Assistance pack and a 360-degree camera system.
