Scheduling provider Route Monkey has been named winner of the Business Innovation category at the Scottish Business Awards.

The award recognised work with low carbon vehicles, including mapping journeys to enable charging en route, advance booking of charge points, and optimising the use of EVs in fleets to maximise the return on investment.

Alan Mahon, event manager for the Scottish Business Awards, said: "This was an extremely competitive category, highlighting some of the best technological innovations that Scotland has to offer.

“The judging panel selected Route Monkey as the winner because its scheduling technology delivers a dual benefit - a positive impact on the bottom line and also a positive environmental impact. This makes it a worthy winner in our view."

Route Monkey’s solutions are based on algorithms that are capable of making millions of calculations in a relatively short space of time, vastly improving on manual transport and travel planning. Its EVOS product is the first scheduling and optimisation solution for low carbon vehicles.

Route Monkey’s algorithms are also used for energy trading, local peak balancing and micro-grid applications, helping to build the business case for renewables. The company is based in Livingston and has additional offices in Gateshead, London, Australia and Hong Kong.

Colin Ferguson, CEO of Route Monkey, said: “We are immensely proud of winning this prestigious award. It is great recognition of the game-changing technology we are now bringing to the mobility, fleet, energy and smart city sectors.”

Sponsored by RBS, the Business Innovation category was hotly contested, with eight companies making the short list. Judges assessed their innovation credentials based on commercial success, the company’s culture of innovation and the specific benefits of the product or service.
