Brake hosts fleet webinar on eliminating driver distractions.

Next month Brake will host a free fleet webinar that will provide expert views on how fleet professionals can reduce driver distractions.

The webinar will take place on October 10, and will be delivered as part of Global Fleet Champions.

The not-for-profit campaign is aiming to prevent crashes and reduce pollution created by work vehicles.

Sarah Plumb, senior fleet officer at Brake, said: “Driving requires the full attention of the driver.

“Hazards can arise at any time and a moment’s distraction can have fatal consequences.

“Preventing driver distraction is one of the most important things that fleet managers can do to make their workforce safer.”

Global Fleet Champions is free and shares training, tools and guidance on global fleet safety best practice, with networking and development opportunities available.

The webinar- called ‘Eliminating driver distractions’- is sponsored by Lytx and will cover the following:

  • Why distraction is an important road safety issue, and why drivers get distracted;
  • The addictiveness and distractions of different technologies;
  • Policies to help reduce driver distraction;
  • Measures to help employers identify drivers who may be at risk of being distracted; and
  • Measures to raise awareness of distraction through education and communication programmes.

Lytx vice president and general manager for Europe, Damian Penney, said: “At Lytx, safety is the cornerstone of the programmes we offer to clients.

“Our cutting-edge machine vision and artificial intelligence technology specifically address distracted driving with the goal of helping our clients understand these risky behaviours in their fleets so they can proactively address them.

“We are excited to sponsor this webinar and hope attendees gain valuable insight on addressing the issue of distracted driving.”

Brake also recently called for drivers to have tougher sentences for repeat drink-drive offences.
