Kia has updated the Optima with a mild facelift and a new diesel engine, to target business users.

The Optima Saloon and Sportswagon are now available with Kia’s new 1.6-litre diesel engine.

It replaces the earlier 1.7-litre CRDi engine and produces 135PS and 320Nm of torque.

Kia says the updated car is aimed at business users, who make up the majority of the segment.

CO2 emissions are higher than before, but the new engine has been tested under the revised WLTP.

The most frugal Optima diesel emits 117g/km with average fuel consumption of 62.8mpg.

A new Drive Mode Selector lets Optima drivers switch between Eco, Comfort, Sport and Smart modes on automatic versions. Each mode enables the driver to customise the powertrain’s responses, prioritising fuel economy or more immediate acceleration.

Externally the car has revised bumpers and new front and rear LED lamps.

The cabin features a new steering wheel and satin-chrome trim on the centre console which extends across the dashboard.

Kia has also modified the design of the Optima GT-Line S, which is now exclusively available in Sportswagon bodystyle.

There are two trim lines for the Optima Saloon – 2 and 3. The Sportswagon is additionally available in GT Line S.

The entry-level 2 grade comes with a seven-inch touchscreen sat-nav system with a reversing camera, climate control, cruise control, electric folding door mirrors and DAB.

Grade 3 features a larger eight-inch infotainment screen, power-adjustable driver's memory seat, heated front seats and steering wheel, 18-inch alloy wheels, a Harman Kardon sound system and additional driver aids such as: Driver Attention Warning , Lane Keep Assist System and a speed limit information function.

GT-Line S offers a 360-degree Around View Monitor, Smart Park Assist System, Blind Spot Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control, a panoramic sunroof and LED headlights. The upholstery is finished in black leather with red stitching, and there’s ventilated front seats and heated outer rear seats.

Servicing is required every 20,000 miles or once a year and the Optima comes with a seven-year or 100,000-mile warranty.
