Vauxhall has fitted a new 54kWh battery to the Mokka Electric, which boosts the car's range to 252 miles.

It represents an improvement of 20% when compared to the range provided by the model’s 50kWh battery.

Ordering for the Mokka Electric Long Range is now open and prices start at £37,555.

The new battery is paired with a more powerful 156PS electric motor, which enables the compact SUV to accelerate from 0-62mph in less than 10 seconds.

Efficiency is also improved. Vauxhall claims the new Mokka Electric can achieve 4.1mi/kWh.

The changes mirror those applied to the Peugeot e-208, which shares a platform with the Mokka Electric, as well as the Corsa Electric.

Despite its increased range, the compact battery size and efficient packaging ensures no space is lost in the passenger or luggage compartment.

Supporting up to 100kW rapid charging, the Mokka Electric Long Range can be re-charged from 0-80% in just 30 minutes. It also features an 11kW on-board charger as standard, suitable for home charging via a wallbox.

Vauxhall will continue to sell the Mokka Electric with its original 50kWh battery and 136PS motor, alongside the new Long Range version.

The Mokka was the first Vauxhall to be available with a fully electric powertrain from launch. By 2028 Vauxhall will be an electric only brand. It already offers fleets and businesses a fully electric variant across its entire Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) model range. With the arrival of the Astra Electric and Astra Sports Tourer Electric in 2023, Vauxhall will offer six fully electric passenger vehicles.
