Mitie has deployed its 5,000th electric vehicle (EV) on its fleet, just two months after taking delivery of its 4,000th zero emission vehicle.

With two thirds (66%) of its fleet now electric, Mitie is ramping up its efforts to create a zero-emission fleet by the end of 2025.

The vehicle, a Volkswagen ID Buzz, was unveiled at Mitie’s headquarters at The Shard in London, and will be used by its National Maintenance Network team.

Heidi Thompson, group fleet manager at Mitie, said: “Reaching 5,000 EVs is testament to our unwavering drive and commitment to reaching a zero-emission fleet.

“This landmark reflects how far we’ve come since our EV journey started in 2020, as one of only a handful of British businesses to achieve this success.

“We look forward to celebrating our next milestone in the near future as we gather momentum towards our 100% electric target.”

Mitie set out its Plan Zero initiative in 2020, an ambitious target to reach net zero by the end of 2025.

A large component which will contribute to reaching this goal is implementing an EV roadmap to fully electrify its fleet of almost 8,000 vehicles, including cars, vans, and commercial gritters.

With 5,000 of these vehicles now electric, Mitie claims to have one of the largest electric fleets in the UK and says it is well on track to meet its 2025 target.

To celebrate the 5,000th EV joining the fleet, Mitie has launched a competition encouraging people to watch out for its branding.

Spotters are tasked with snapping a photo and posting it on LinkedIn and/or X, tagging and following @mitie and using the hashtag #Mitie5000EV, to be in with the chance of winning a £50 Amazon voucher! Terms and conditions apply – see here for details.
