Vauxhall has unveiled the all-new Grandland, which will be available with an electric powertrain for the first time.

Based on the new Stellantis STLA Medium platform, the Grandland Electric will have a long range of 435 miles (WLTP).

A petrol hybrid and a plug-in hybrid powertrain will also be available.

The Grandland's underpinnings are shared with Peugeot's new 5008.

Vauxhall has given the Grandland a fresh, modern design and new interior with a 16-inch central infotainment display. It takes inspiration from the firm's Experimental Concept.

James Taylor, managing director of Vauxhall, said: “The All-New Grandland is a milestone for Vauxhall. With it, every Vauxhall model will be available with the choice of a fully electric powertrain – a decade ahead of UK Government requirements. This is a big step in our electric offensive. The relationship to the Vauxhall Experimental is unmistakable. It offers innovations that were first seen on this extraordinary concept car. The new Grandland will therefore strengthen our position in the important family crossover segment.”

The new car is 17cm longer than the outgoing Grandland, boosting passenger space and allowing for a larger boot. Luggage space has grown by 37 litres to 550 litres.

The Grandland Electric will use a 98kWh battery, giving a range of 435 miles and the ability to charge from 10%-80% in less than 30 minutes.

Plug-in hybrid models will have a 56-mile zero-emission range, while the Hybrid will pair a 1.2-litre petrol engine with an electric motor.

When it goes on sale, the Grandland will feature 20-inch wheels, Pixel LED headlights, adaptive cruise control and semi-autonomous lane change assist.

Pricing and specifications will be published closer to the car's official launch in the autumn.
