BMW has expanded the line-up for its i4 electric car, with a new entry-level eDrive35 variant.

It is priced from £49,995 (on-the-road), making it almost £8,000 cheaper than the next model up in the range (eDrive40).

The eDrive35 is fitted with a 70.2kWh battery, giving a WLTP range of up to 299 miles.

Utilising DC fast charging, the batteries can be charged at a rate of up to 180kW, enabling a charge of 10% to 80% in 32 minutes.

The rear-mounted drive unit develops 286PS and enables a 0-62mph acceleration time of 6.0 seconds.

Steve Roberts, BMW UK general manager for corporate sales, said: "Following the huge success we have seen with the BMW i4 in the corporate and fleet markets since launch, we are very pleased to bring the eDrive35 model to the UK portfolio.

"This latest model to join the i4 range will make electric driving accessible to even more of our customers."

The M Sport variant adds M aerodynamic bodystyling and wheels, plus Alcantara upholstery.
